Trusts - the basic unit of construction

This page is an attempt to explain fairly briefly how New Atlantis trusts work and their role in everything. although a part of the virtual world, or kingdom concept they are also have a major impact on the running of all our real world activities. The term New Atlantis trust in this concept is not connected with any company or trusts status registered anywhere outside of the wider New Atlantis projects. So here goes.

As a part of the original concepts of New Atlantis and within the virtual world side we have always had New Atlantis trusts. Most companies who supply service and clubs and other groups have acquired New Atlantis trust status. As an honor based society each goes to extreme lengths not to let another down and deals completely honorably with each other. Holding trust status is therefore like being a member of a completely trusting and honorable family, where each will support the other. Although they have agreements or contracts between them, this is for clarity not a legal need. The word from one trust to another is absolute. This allows a level of trust and openness that it would just not be wise to even consider when dealing with the world at large.

We try as far as it is sensible to go to carry forward these concepts when dealing with others, however clearly there are limits as to how far this can be done.

New Atlantis is made up of many units we call trusts, these are clubs, interest groups, businesses, projects or family groups. They comprise groups of people or in some cases New Atlantis citizens or other trusts. 

Trusts can be permanent as for example the Independent Inquiry Society, or Atlantis Virtual World Ltd, can be temporary while a need exists or there are officers to run them, or may be at first a part of New Atlantis and then split away and sometimes rejoin. There are examples of each. 

A New Atlantis trust is special in that it undertakes to survive and run its affairs completely according to the principles of New Atlantis, and while a virtual world trust, the president of New Atlantis will be its theoretical head, this is the reason why so often you will come across our presidents name as the president of other organizations. Every element of New Atlantis is a trust, for example the New Atlantis Royal family is a trust. So it very much is the building blocks everything else is made from.

As trusts are also citizens of New Atlantis, a trust can have other trusts amongst its members.

People outside of New Atlantis can be a part of a club or entity that is a New Atlantis trust, but the officers of any virtual word trust registered through New Atlantis itself  have to be New Atlantis citizens, or they have to have special approval from the president of new Atlantis, this is usually given on the understanding that the trust will have very tight objectives and defined means of meeting its objectives that comply with new Atlantis philosophies. Corporations can have directors who are not New Atlantis citizens providing they undertake to run the corporation according to the principles of New Atlantis. Trusts that are a apart of the real world and registered at New Atlantis International Services Corporation (NAISC) do not have this restriction.

A trust can be a separate legal entity, a non profit independent body or a company owned by citizens, or a sub section of any of these or of the New Atlantis non profit company, limited by guarantee, or one of the other organisations in the family.

A New Atlantis trust partnership is a partnership run by a number of trusts, and registered by NAISC of it only deals with other trusts it doesn't need to be registered elsewhere or exist in another form.

Setting up a New Trust

Any group of people, can establish a trust, it involves no cost, or formalities but an agreement together that they will operate it in accordance with the principles of New Atlantis. An existing organization can have a meeting of officers who decide that their organization should become a trust.

The trust has its own trustees, citizens who act as the equivalent of company directors to run it. Depending on your country, tax system and legal system, you may decide to register or incorporate your trust in some form.

Your trust can have elected officials or appointed officials based on trustees. They can be paid or unpaid, it is all completely up to you providing that you stick to the principles of it being an honorable trust. 

You may, as many do, also decide to devise your own ceremony for new members to the trust or New Atlantis citizens, but this should never embarrass any person or put them at any risk.

Formalities

As we have said above you decide to establish a trust according to the principles and do so. The president of New Atlantis automatically becomes the president of your trust, if it a part of the virtual world, but not necessarily so if it is apart of the real world. This does not mean he will be routinely involved. However it does mean that should a problem develop between your group or between your trust and another you can ask the president to get someone to make a decision on what should happen. This will most often be one of the members of the New Atlantis royal family. Non virtual trusts, those dealing in the real world usually work through NAISC and they have other arrangements for commercial disputes etc,

You do not have to tell us, or do anything specific to become a citizen or form a trust currently, if it is not going to do anything outside your own group. If it is to offer a service in the real world you should register it through NAISC, or get Business Club International to do this for you. It is a personal undertaking you all make to yourself and other members of your group as well as the wider New Atlantis family. If you wish and it is optional you can let us know about your trust by by emailing us about it.

You may ask, what stops just anyone saying they have New Atlantis trust status, very little at all at this time if you are not offering a service to others or dealing with other members of the family, in which scase you would have to register it through NAISC. We treat all as if they had a clean slate, they are working from now forward, and as long as they run their trust honorably we will not take away their trust status, however if they do not, then we reserve the right either to tell them that they can non longer consider themselves trust, or if a virtual world trust to issue a presidential order as the head of their organization, instructing them on changes to make. Real world trusts are regulated by NAISC, We are not always negative, in some cases we will offer help, or put them in touch with another trust who can help them to achieve more. Trusts that are listed on our websites are monitored and work closely together. Only trusts referred to on our web site, or one of the leading trust we work closely with, should you take as being personally recommended by us.

If you wish to make it formally a virtual world  NA Trust and for us to index your web site from ours, and to put the presidents name on your web site or stationary, then we do ask that you email us and ask. We will then want to know a lot more about what you are doing, and may ask too many questions. Effectively you are asking for the whole of New Atlantis to give you a seal of approval.
